Cupping Therapy
- Removes cellulite
- Improves circulation
- Eliminates painful areas
Cupping massage, while fashionable now, is actually an ancient form of alternative therapy dating back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, Hindu, Korean, Tibetan and Middle Eastern traditions. In cupping massage the therapist places special cups on the skin in specific areas for a shorter or longer period of time depending on the desired effects. At the same time they can be handled continuously to become like a suction fascia massage. Oil is applied to the massaged areas so that it glides on gently and pleasantly.

Although in the past vacuum massage was commonly used to treat trauma or burn scars, therapists soon noticed its ability to improve the appearance of cellulite. There are three times as many studies on cellulite as on burns or scars.
Cups can be made from different types of material: bell-shaped glass cups, silicone plastic, wood (bamboo), metal or ceramic. At the Amrita Centre we work with silicone suction cups.
Cups create a vacuum and their effects include several purposes, including to reduce pain, inflammation, to increase blood flow to a specific area, to feel good, for deep relaxation and as a type of deep tissue massage.
The application of cupping increases blood circulation in the area where it is placed. This relieves muscle tension, improves overall blood flow and stimulates cellular repair.
The Chinese believe that suction facilitates the flow of 'qi' (life force) in the body and helps balance yin and yang within the body. It is believed that restoring the balance between these two extremes helps increase the body's resistance to pathogens.
To glide the cup pleasantly over the skin, we apply oil beforehand. The cups are then moved slowly over each body area and especially around painful areas, creating a massage-like effect.
Depending on the type of service you receive, cupping massage can be added as a topping to therapeutic and anti-cellulite massage or it can be a stand-alone massage lasting 1-3h.
Vacuum massage includes both dynamic oil massage strokes by gliding them over the skin to stretch and massage the area and static cupping (on the spot for a few minutes). Farewell to tension!

Does cupping or cupping massage remove toxins?
According to research, vacuum massage can eliminate toxins by stimulating the immune response, both locally and systemically. It can also remove uric acid, a natural waste product from the digestion of certain foods. A build-up of uric acid can lead to high levels of acidity in the blood and urine.
Cupping massage can also have a positive effect on the lymphatic system, which is partly responsible for removing waste products from the body.
When the flow of lymph is disrupted, it can cause fluid to build up and prevent the body from properly eliminating toxins. Lymphatic drainage massage is a solution to this problem. Similarly, cupping massage helps increase lymph flow and prevent fluid build-up.
Get rid of cellulite and fatty tissue with cupping therapy!
Cupping massage is a therapeutic method of cellulite reduction and is performed by suctioning the skin that rises into the vacuum in the cup.
The dynamic vacuum therapy created by the suction cups combined with their gliding over the skin is known as vacuum massage. This vacuum state significantly helps to treat cellulite in conjunction with dynamic anti-cellulite massage manoeuvres.
The cupping massage will be performed by a trained Amrita Parlour therapist who will use different types and sizes of silicone cups. This non-invasive method generates a flow of fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients to the surface of the skin. This stimulates lymphatic circulation which drains toxins and reduces the orange peel appearance of cellulite.
Through deep stimulation, skin affected by cellulite becomes smooth, firm, youthful and gains a healthy, radiant glow.
You will get a cellulite reduction massage from professional therapists, with immediate visible effects! The beneficial effect it has on collagen and elastin also improves skin firmness and elasticity. A full set of treatments is about ten sessions with one or two days off in between.
Which parts of the body can be massaged with cupping?
Cups are most often applied to massage the back, buttocks, legs and abdomen.
But medium cupping cups are also used for massaging the upper chest and arms, as well as small cupping cups for a very pleasant facial massage that has a lifting effect, helps to remove wrinkles and improve circulation in the face.
Cupping is excellent for anyone experiencing acute and chronic pain, headaches, common cold, cough, painful menstruation, stress and anxiety.
Are there reasons why I shouldn't get cupping?
Pregnant women should avoid cupping their abdomen and lower back. The therapy has also been shown to be less effective in patients who are over 30 kg overweight.
